The Minor in French

The minor in French is a program consisting of six, three-credit courses in which students pursue studies in French beyond the beginning and intermediate levels. In consultation with departmental advisors, students combine their work with other academic disciplines and develop particular strengths and interests in French literature, language, or culture.

Prerequisites:

  • Successful completion of French 234, 240, 241, or equivalent placement.

2 Required Courses:

  • French 300 (Intensive Review of French Grammar)
  • French 326 (Introduction to French Literature)

4 Elective Courses:

  • Students choose from among the courses already approved for the major in French. At least two of the four elective courses must be at the 400-level.

KU Study Abroad Programs:
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in study abroad programs. Some credit from these programs is applicable to the minor. Students should consult with departmental advisors and the Office of Study Abroad (108 Lippincott Hall, 864-3742) about the following options:

  • Summer Language Institute in Paris
  • Summer Language Institute in Strasbourg
  • Semester Abroad in Angers
  • Academic Year in Besançon
Departmental Advisors:
Students are invited to meet with faculty members in French to discuss the minor.
